A wonderful YouTube channel that is a murder mystery persons love (and despair) is to thank here. This time introducing us to a character that immeidately caught my eyes and ears for one reason- violence. Barry Barkman (or as we'll come to know him under the psduenoum Barry Block). Right off the bat like a 90 mph pitch outside the green wall in Fenway, we are granted access into what a day looks like for the main character, Barry. Someone who is clearly comfortable sharing a hotel room with another man, slumped in bed with a crater in his head. No doubt from our newly introduced POV character. What follows is a look into his moment to moment background as a hitman, where we are filled with what seems to be a father figure and enabler, we'll get into this more later. What we do know is he takes the title of Barry's Uncle and goes by "Fuchs". Also what we know, he's cheap. The episode get's into it by Fuchs sending his prodigal son on a mission to LA without supplying any makings of sufficient transportation and also ensuring they use the Ontario airport instead of the one with big letter acronyms.
From there we get more of a scenic view into the cheap mastermind as he doesn't bother to ship a silencer with the gun being used for the hit. Our target of this one is some poor bloke just trying to get his nut with a personal training student of his, who unfortunately for him is with the significant other of a Check mob boss. Barry meets the one's looking looking to get rid of the affair, and even hilariously offers a nutsack stab as a method he's used in the past. They don't take him up, explaining shooting is painful too and just simpler. Simple, right. During Barry's recon of the target he stumbles into the rehearsed lines of an actress preparing her lines who is slightly less angry than in a rush (at Barry). As the pretty blonde exits Barry enters the studio, starstruck at the class. In dramatic fashion too as he simultaneously bumps into the man he's set to kill that same evening. The timing couldn't be better as hit-target Ryan's scene partner can't make role call due to a conflicting catering gig (a theme we'll see with LA artists needing a backup to pursue their dreams). The two do their scene with Barry looking like he was recently defrosted from ice with how stiff and uncomfortable he is during the scene. Cut, and the audience applauds much to Barry's pleasure as get our first glimmer of a smile from our eccentric marksman. Subsequently, after class he is invited out to celebrate in the city of no roots as nobody is originally from LA.
Sensing he may have a hidden talent and "purpose", Barry consoles in Fuchs about the day prior to where it's revealed to him the checks spotted him actually hugging his mark after dropping him off after the night. Fuchs reminds Barry that while he may have a talent for something other than killing "Bad Guys" he is already good at something that requires him remaining anonymous and that acting would really be a conflict of interest. the conversation is resolved with Barry being redirected back to his purpose, in this case, killing affair ridden Ryan. After skipping the following class, Barry waits outside the studio and ambushes the teacher, gene asking if he was any good at all. Gene, similarly to how he treated the blond actress, rips into Barry claiming there is nothing there in terms of truth- which fuels acting prowess. WIth that sentiment Barry insanely reveals what he is good at, killing people, and his story behind it. Thinking a improv scene or from a movie Gene is impressed with the soap box speech and invites him back, money in advance of course.
Motivated and fueled with another purpose he senses potential in barry is ready to take out Ryan, and approaches the red pickup truck- glock in hand. When he creeps up to the window, we see he's already been killed, bullet thrigh his forehead similar to the opening scene. With a strightline view of another hitman sniper in hand. After general confusion voices at the car full of men, Barry opens fire as the sniper jams- killing all men inside. End scene.
